North Hollywood: On March 1, 2022, The Los Angeles Police Department North Hollywood and Devonshire area detectives arrested a prolific commercial burglary suspect, 62-year-old, Rueben Virgil Newhouse. Newhouse is believed to be responsible for over seventy (70) commercial burglaries in the San Fernando Valley since October 2020. The crime spree lasted over 1 ½ years before Newhouse was apprehended.
Newhouse targeted small businesses during early morning hours between 2:00 a.m., to 4:00 a.m. He entered businesses by using rocks or a hammer to shatter the front door glass or windows. Newhouse targeting cash registers for money. Newhouse always wore black color type boots, mask, and gloves.

A search warrant was served at Newhouse’s apartment and detectives recovered several burglary tools and other items taken from various businesses.
San Fernando District Attorney’s Office filed a total of twenty-three (23) second degree burglary charges against Newhouse with a set bail amount of $505,000.00 dollars and is currently in custody at Los Angeles County Jail. Additional burglary cases will be filed and reviewed by the District Attorney’s office.
The estimated loss to small business owners struggling through the COVID pandemic, exceeded over $200,000 dollars in monetary and property damage.
