Homicide Detectives Investigate Double Murder

Los Angeles: On Monday, March 31, 2003, at approximately 6:10 p.m., three male Black suspects drove to a residence located in the 4800 block of 2nd Avenue. The suspects stopped their vehicle and began shooting at three male Blacks that were standing on a porch located at the above location. The suspect’s then fled the location in a 1984 Dodge, Prospector Van. The suspects’ van is in police custody and will be held for evidence.
The detective’s preliminary investigation has revealed that during the incident one of the suspects’ was shot. It is unclear weather he was shot by a unidentified citizen from the street or by "friendly fire" within his van. The injured suspect was taken to a local hospital and dropped-off by his co-suspects.
Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced 23 year-old Brian Byrd and 21 year-old Ty Wilson dead at scene. A third victim was treated and released for a gunshot wound.
The wounded suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital. The remaining suspects have not been identified at this time. The motive for this shooting is gang-related.
