Bio

Captain Jeffrey Hollis was born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona, before moving to the City of Los Angeles.

Captain Hollis taught both junior high school and high school for several years after graduation. In 1992 he joined the Los Angeles Police Department Reserve Corps. There he graduated at the top of his class, earning honors as the number one recruit of academy class 6-92R. Although he enjoyed teaching, he found his experiences as a reserve to be inspirational, and he decided to switch careers.

Captain Hollis embarked on his new, full-time career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1993. He worked a variety of patrol and specialized assignments as a young police officer, including Wilshire Patrol Division, Van Nuys Patrol Division, and both the Van Nuys Special Problems Unit and the Van Nuys Gang Enforcement Detail. In 1996 he promoted to training officer and, in that capacity, worked both Van Nuys and Rampart Patrol Division.

In 2000 Captain Hollis promoted to sergeant and served as a patrol supervisor at North Hollywood Patrol division, as well as West Los Angeles Patrol Division. After serving several years as a patrol supervisor, in 2005 he became the supervisor of the North Hollywood Gang Enforcement Detail.

Although he had focused his entire career to operations and street-level law enforcement duties, in 2008 he promoted to sergeant II and shifted his focus to community policing, serving as the officer-in -charge of North Hollywood’s Community Relations Office. This proved to be an assignment which he found particularly rewarding, in that he and his subordinates were directly and demonstrably impacting the lives of Los Angeles’ at-risk youth. After serving in that capacity for a considerable number of years, he became a sergeant II complaint investigator at Internal Affairs Division, principally assigned to the Workplace Investigative Section.

In 2016 Captain Hollis promoted to lieutenant and was assigned as a watch commander at Foothill Patrol Division. He was soon promoted to lieutenant II and assigned as an officer-in-charge of a detective section at Commercial Crimes Division. Later, he served as bureau adjutant for Information Technology Bureau.

In April of 2022 he was promoted to the rank of captain and assigned as the Commanding Officer of Foothill Patrol Division. The following year, Captain Hollis was promoted to Captain II and assigned as the Commanding Officer of Valley Traffic Division. In June of 2024, he was promoted to Captain III and assigned as the Commanding Officer for Wilshire Area. As he has throughout his career, he remains committed to serving the communities of Los Angeles and supporting the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department.
