Memorial Event for Victim of DUI Fatal Collision

 
Los Angeles: On Friday, March 28, 2003, from Noon to 4:00 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division in association with the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will join the family of deceased victim Patrick Flanders II at the Encino Golf Course, 16821 Burbank Boulevard. The purpose of this event is to send a strong anti-DUI message to the public.
At 3:00 p.m., there will be a tree planting ceremony in the median strip on Burbank Boulevard immediately adjacent to the golf course in honor of the life of Mr. Flanders.
This memorial will honor and remember Patrick Flanders II, who was killed on October 16, 2001 by a driver under the influence of alcohol and drugs who was driving over 100 mile per hour on Burbank Boulevard. The driver lost control and crossed over the median strip, resulting in a head-on collision that instantly killed Mr. Flanders.
Recently, the DUI driver was found guilty of second degree murder and gross vehicular manslaughter. He was sentenced to two 15 years-to-life sentences. Patrick’s family is hoping this event will help increase the awareness of alcohol and drug related traffic deaths throughout the Valley.
