Gang Shooting Results in One Dead, One Injured

February 11, 2003

Los Angeles: On Monday, February 10, 2003, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Devonshire Area patrol officers responded to several 9-1-1 calls regarding shots being fired in the 19000 block of Bryant Street, within the Park Parthenia apartment complex. Upon their arrival, responding officers observed evidence of shooting and were informed by community members that two gunshot victims were transported by private car to a local hospital. The officers secured the scene and attempted to locate potential witnesses.
Additional patrol officers responded to the hospital and were apprised of the condition of the two male gunshot victims. One victim sustained a single gunshot wound in the lower body. He remained in critical but stable condition. The second victim incurred multiple gunshot wounds in the upper and lower body and was pronounced dead at approximately 5:00 p.m.
Preliminary investigation indicated the victims were talking in a carport located to the rear of 19036 Bryant Street when two to three male Hispanic suspects approached the victims on foot and several rounds were fired by at least one, and possibly two of the suspects. It is believed the suspects ran from the carport and entered a green compact vehicle and fled from the housing complex.
The deceased victim has been identified as Pablo Arreguin, 19 year-old and a resident of Park Parthenia. Arreguin is a documented affiliate of a local street gang. Though the motive for the attack has not been established, the incident appears to be gang related. The second victim is a 22 year-old male Hispanic and his identity is being withheld for investigative reasons. He is a resident of the apartment complex, however he does not have any documented gang affiliation.
