Suspect Arrested After Stealing Car with Child Inside NR22157rc

Update

 Suspect has been identified as 22-year-old Maria, Carver. She was arrested yesterday at 6:15 p.m. for Kidnapping 207(a) PC.

Watts: On June 1, 2022, around 5:30 p.m. LAPD Southeast Patrol units responded to a Grand Theft Auto/Kidnapping radio call in the area of 110th Street and Wilmington Avenue. Upon arrival they met with the victim who stated she had stopped in the area due to a flat tire. As the victim exited her vehicle to look at her flat tire, a female suspect entered her vehicle and drove off, with the victim’s child in the rear seat. The victim called the police and was able to monitor her vehicle’s location through her cellphone, which was inside the stolen vehicle.

LAPD Officers, along with a police helicopter from Air Support Division, immediately responded to the area of Randall and Fishburn, in the City of Bell, where officers located the child and vehicle. Witnesses then pointed out the suspect’s location to the responding officers, who took her into custody without incident. The child and mother were reunited at Southeast Station, and we are glad to report the child was in good spirits and unharmed.

The suspect is in the process of being booked, and her identity will be provided at a later time.

The victim’s quick-thinking in tracking her vehicle, coupled with the officers relentless follow-up and community members pointing out the suspect, resulted in the arrest of a criminal, and more importantly, a mother being reunited with her child.
