On May 13, 2022, Southwest uniformed personnel received a radio call of an Assault with a Deadly Weapon (ADW) suspect there now, armed with a machete, at 1200 block of West 38th Street. When the officers arrived at scene they located the suspect, unarmed, inside a single-family residence. As the officers made contact with the suspect, they ordered him to the porch area of the residence. As the officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he began to resist resulting in a Categorical Use of Force.
During the use of force, an officer contacted the suspect’s neck area. The suspect was subsequently taken into custody for ADW. Prior to booking, the suspect complained of injury to his neck.
Los Angeles City Fire Department personnel were summoned to Southwest Community Police Station to treat the suspect. The suspect was treated at the station and deemed okay to book. One of the officers involved in the Use of Force was transported to Cedar Sinai Medical Center in stable condition with an injured hand.
Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
