Topanga Categorical Use of Force NRF018-22ne

On May 21, 2022, at around 7:43 a.m., Topanga Patrol Officers went in a vehicle pursuit of a named suspect, wanted for Attempt Murder. The pursuit lasted a short distance and ended when the suspect collided into a concrete wall at the intersection of Independence Street and Gault Avenue. The suspect exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, the suspect resisted, resulting in a Categorical Use of Force.

During the Use of Force, an officer contacted the suspect’s neck area. He was subsequently taken into custody for Attempt Murder. The suspect was transported to the hospital for minor injuries that occurred during the traffic collision. He was treated and deemed okay to book. No officers were injured during this incident.

Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident.
