Los Angeles: Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating the murder of a male Hispanic, 21 years of age. On November 28, 2002 at approximately 7:20 a.m., Rampart patrol officers responded to an ADW investigation in the 900 block of South Grandview Street. Upon arrival they observed the victim on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his head. Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics responded and transported the victim to USC Medical Center. At the time of the shooting the victim was admitted and placed on life support systems.
On November 29 at approximately 4:00 p.m., the victim succumbed to his injuries and the life support systems were disconnected.
The investigation revealed the victim and several bystanders were standing on the sidewalk, when two suspects walked up between the buildings and started shooting into the group of bystanders. The victim sustained a gunshot wound and fell to the ground. The suspects ran eastbound between the buildings from Grandview Street.
The suspects were described as two male Hispanics. One of the suspects was wearing a gray shirt and pants and had short curly hair. There was no further information on the second suspect. The weapon and suspects are outstanding. Both suspects were possibly armed with semi-automatic weapons. The motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
