Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Bureau Homicide Detectives are investigating a stabbing incident which resulted in two victims being hospitalized with critical injuries.

On November 15, 2022, around 6:20 p.m., Central Area patrol officers responded to multiple calls of “shots fired” at a large retail store located in the 700 block of S. Figueroa Street. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located three victims, a 9-year-old male and a 24-year-old female who had been stabbed and a 26-year-old who had minor scratches. They also found a 40-year-old male suspect, who had suffered a single gunshot wound.

The investigation has revealed the suspect entered the store where he armed himself with a large knife and, seemingly unprovoked, attacked the 9-year-old victim. The 26-year-old victim intervened and suffered minor injuries. The suspect also stabbed a 24-year-old victim. Following the stabbings and assault, the suspect turned toward a responding uniformed security officer and attempted to stab him causing the security officer to utilize his duty handgun to shoot the suspect in an effort to stop his deadly actions.

The 26-year-old female was treated by responding paramedics at the scene and released. The remaining victims and suspect were taken to local hospitals where they were treated for their injuries. The 9-year-old is in stable condition. The 24-year-old is in critical but stable condition. The suspect succumbed to his injury and was pronounced deceased by the attending physician.
