Newton Division Categorical Use of Force NRF058-22lr

On December 19, 2022, at around 2:00 p.m., two plain clothes officers assigned to the Newton Area Narcotics Enforcement Detail were in the area of 50th Street and Central Avenue, when they observed and detained a felony warrant wanted suspect. Shortly after the detention, the suspect began to resist, and a use of force occurred. After the suspect was taken into custody, he complained of a medical condition and was transported by rescue ambulance to a local hospital.
The suspect was admitted for further medical treatment. No officers were injured during this incident.
The suspect Root, Earl, DOB: 07/04/1962, will be booked on an open Sales of Narcotics felony warrant.
Force Investigation Division (FID) detectives responded to the scene and are investigating this incident as a Categorical Use of Force.
