Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department is utilizing a problem solving technique that is directed towards the reduction of arrests for vehicle operators who are driving under the influence, also known as DUI drivers. Drivers who are stopped at the checkpoint and suspected of operating their motor vehicles while under-the-influence, will be arrested and booked for violation of Section 12352 of the California Vehicle Code. Violator licenses will be confiscated and their vehicles will be impounded as indicated by applicable California law. Other driving violations will be cited and motorists may also be arrested and their vehicles impounded as indicated by applicable law and ordinances.
After receiving requests from community members and patrol officers for increased enforcement, LAPD officers conducted a computer survey that revealed a high number of DUI and Hit & Run traffic collisions on Central Avenue.
This enforcement activity is part of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Heightened Traffic Awareness Plan.
