Los Angeles: Recent national events and tragedies have focused the spotlight on everyday heroes of our society. Many of our public servants, such as police and fire personnel, are being recognized for their commitment to public safety and civic duty. Several organizations and community stakeholders are honoring those who risk their own safety and welfare to protect our communities.
On Tuesday, February 5, 2002, six officers from the Los Angeles Police Department, Metropolitan Division, will be honored as "America’s heroes" at the 2nd Annual Sports Fans Choice Awards Show.
The event showcases Los Angeles area athletes who have demonstrated compassion and community concern through humanitarian accomplishments. The awards show will also pay tribute to several police officers and fire fighters from the cities of New York and Los Angeles. The net proceeds from this event will benefit the World Trade Center Relief Fund.
The evening begins with a reception at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 6:45 p.m., and the program following at 7:45 p.m.
