Los Angeles: On Tuesday, February 5, 2002, detectives from the Abused Child Unit, responded to California Hospital to conduct a murder investigation. A two-year-old male child was brought into the emergency room by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Doctors observed the child had multiple bruises over his entire body and suspected the probable cause of death was the result of a beating. The exact cause of death will be determined by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.
Detectives from the Abused Child Unit worked with detectives from the Downey Police Department, as initially it appeared the crime had occurred in the City of Downey.
The investigation determined that the crime had occurred in the City of Los Angeles. The child’s mother, Silvia Casarrubias, age 27, was arrested and booked for murder after it was determined she was responsible for the child’s injuries. Her bail was set at $1,000,000.00.
