Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is proud to announce the recent promotions of Commander Paul M. Kim and Captain Randy Quan. Chief Bernard C. Parks will be in attendance at this reception being held in honor of Commander Kim and Captain Quan. Captains Terry Hara and Douglas Shur, both of Asian descent, will also be recognized at this event. Captains Hara and Shur were both promoted last year to the rank of Captain.
Commander Kim is the first Asian-American to reach the rank of "Commander" in the history of the LAPD. Captain Hara is the first Japanese-American to attain the rank of Captain, in the LAPD. Also, Captain Quan is the first Chinese-American to attain the rank of Captain in the LAPD.
