Public’s Assistance Needed in Locating Murder Suspect

Los Angeles: On January 3, 2002, at approximately 9:30 p.m., the victim, 36 year-old Kenneth J. Shufford, a Mid-Wilshire Area resident, became involved in an argument with his long time friend Kenny Wayne Compton in the area of Edgewood Place and Queen Ann Place. The argument escalated when the suspect Compton armed himself with a shotgun rifle and fired at Mr. Shufford, striking him in the chest. Compton then fled the location in a 1985 burgundy red Buick, California License # 2RLW021. Mr. Shufford was transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics.
On January 11, 2002, Mr. Shufford succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Suspect Compton is described as a male Black, 5’11", 273 lbs., Date of Birth of 7-20-1965. He should be considered armed and dangerous.
Wilshire Homicide detectives will be conducting a press conference to request the public’s assistance in locating Kenny Wayne Compton. Suspect Compton’s photographs will be available during the press conference.
