"Newton Detectives Investigate Murder on East 54th Street"
Los Angeles: On Monday, November 5, 2001, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the body of an unidentified female Hispanic was discovered behind a vacant building in the 100 block of East 54th Street. A resident in the area was in the alley and noticed the victim lying on the ground between 53rd Street and 54th Street. The victim appeared to have been transported to the location by unknown means and left at the location. Death appears to have occurred several days prior to discovery of the body. She was covered up to prevent immediate discovery.
The victim has not been identified at this time and she appears to be in her late teens to early twenties. The cause of death is unknown pending the results of an autopsy.
Neighbors in the area report that through traffic in the alley has been blocked by the illegal dumping of articles of household furniture for approximately three weeks.
The motive has not been established at this time.
