The officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the suspect but Quinones failed to comply. Suspect Quinones ran southbound through the houses. The officers pursued Quinones on foot to a driveway on the west side of an apartment building located on the southwest corner of McDonald Street and D Streets. Officer Boccanfuso began searching the driveway area with his weapon drawn. Suddenly, Quinones lunged from the vicinity of a trash container and grabbed Officer Boccanfuso’s weapon. Officer Boccanfuso wrestled the weapon away from Quinones. Quinones attempted to grab the weapon again. Officer Boccanfuso, in fear for his life, fired one round, striking Quinones in the left hand. Quinones was taken into custody.
