Los Angeles – The graduation ceremony for the second class of the Los Angeles Police Magnet School program will take place on May 31, 2001 at 10:00 A.M. This will be a significant event in the lives of some very special Los Angeles high school students and a most positive milestone for the Los Angeles Police Department. These impressive young people will be celebrating the completion of a rigorous four-year education and training program that was designed to lead many of them to future law enforcement careers. The City of Los Angeles and the Police Department will be celebrating a promising new source of qualified candidates for the Department and related agencies.
Graduation speakers include Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks and Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, among other dignitaries. Three graduating seniors will speak about their Academy experiences and hopes for the future. Thousands of dollars in scholarships will be awarded. The ceremony will conclude with a moving exchange of salutes between LAPD officers and Police Academy cadets. Nearly 900 students, parents, and guests are expected to attend.
