Attempted Murder Investigation NR23165ne

June 22, 2023

Los Angeles: On June 5th, 2023, around 5:30 p.m., two female victims in their mid-20’s drove to the area of 81st Street and Avalon Boulevard to purchase a hamburger from a local burger stand. Also, in the vehicle were one of the adult victims’ children, 1-year-old and 8-month-old daughters, seated in the back seat of the vehicle. The suspects, described as three males, pulled into the parking lot of the burger stand in a gray Kia sedan with Texas license plates, armed with handguns. They drove alongside the victims, targeted them, shooting multiple times at the victims as they sat in their vehicle. The suspects subsequently fled the scene, leaving the 20-year-old mother with a gunshot wound to the leg and the 1-year-old daughter with a gunshot wound to the foot.

Detectives from 77th Street Division responded to and processed the crime scene, recovering multiple 9mm and .45 caliber casings. Surveillance footage obtained after a search warrant depicted the shooting incident and resulted in three juvenile suspects being identified. One was a 17-year-old male juvenile and two were 16-year-old male juveniles. Detectives determined that the shooting incident was gang motivated; however, the victims were mistaken as rival gang members.

On June 21st, 2023, all three suspects were arrested without incident in the City of Los Angeles in a collaborative effort with Gang Narcotics Division, United States Marshall’s Apprehension Task Force. Detectives obtained a search warrant for suspects residence and associated vehicles.

Evidence related to the attempted murder investigation was recovered and all three suspects were booked for 602WIC-664/187PC-Attempted Murder. The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for consideration.
