Hit-and-Run Driver Kills Grandfather, Injures Grandson NR23204mp

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department South Traffic Area detectives are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the suspect involved in a fatal traffic collision in Southwest Division.

On Thursday, July 13th, 2023 around 9:30 p.m., an unknown-type, dark-colored vehicle was traveling eastbound in the 4200 Block of Santa Rosalia Drive at a high rate of speed. The driver struck two pedestrians who were attempting to cross the street. Victim one was described as an 85-year-old male, Hispanic. Victim two is described as a 41-year-old male, Hispanic. The vehicle driver continued eastbound on Santa Rosalia Drive without stopping to render aid as required by law.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported both victims to the hospital. The 85-year-old male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel. The 41-year-old male is in stable condition. Both names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit and Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members who provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
