Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s Olympic Division Robbery detectives announce the arrest of an attempt robbery suspect.
On July 21, 2023, around 8:15 a.m., Los Angeles Police Department Olympic area uniformed patrol officers responded to a radio call of an attempt robbery of an elderly Korean, near the 2900 block of Olympic Boulevard.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that the victim, while attempting to obtain money from the Automated Teller Machine, was approached by the suspect from the rear. In his approach, the suspect placed (what was later discovered to be a handgun), to the victim’s back and demanded money. The suspect then attempted to reach into the victim’s pockets and a struggle ensued resulting in the suspect taking a shooting stance and pointing his handgun at the victim. The victim retreated for fear of being shot, and the suspect entered a vehicle and fled from the location.
On July 25, 2023, Olympic Division Robbery Detectives were able to review video of the incident and identify a possible suspect who was later stopped by Olympic Station Patrol officers and taken into custody without incident. The suspect, identified as Javier Araiza Jr., (DOB 09/30/1976), was arrested and booked for 664/211 PC – Attempt Robbery, Booking Number 6647550.
During the investigation, Olympic Division Robbery Detectives uncovered evidence that may indicate additional crimes. Detectives believe the suspect is responsible for additional, unreported crimes and they are asking for anyone that was victimized by this suspect to immediately contact the LAPD. In addition, detectives are seeking the public’s assistance for information regarding this crime.
