The officer involved in the below incident has been identified Detective Andre Cepeida, Serial No. 37990 assigned to 77th Division.

**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence.  The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**

Downey: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting that occurred in the City of Downey.

On October 11, 2023, around 4:35 a.m., an off-duty detective assigned to 77th Street Area was exiting his residence when he was alerted by his home security camera system of an unknown person wearing a mask in front of his residence.  The detective attempted to make contact with the suspect at which time an Officer-Involved Shooting occurred.  The suspect fled the area in a vehicle to an unknown location.

No officers or community members were injured during this incident. The Downey Police Department responded to the scene and assumed primary investigative responsibility for the criminal portion of this incident.
