Los Angeles: Early this morning, 42-year-old Angelina Wilkins was attacked by two pitbulls in the South Los Angles area.
The attack occurred at 3:30 AM, when Ms. Wilkins, aided by a crutch, was walking in the 1700 block of West 51st Street.
A group of good Samaritans, who were on their way to work, witnessed the attack and rushed to the victim’s aid. One Samaritan used a 2 X 4 piece of lumber to stop the pit bulls from attacking, while another Samaritan used his car to chase the dogs away. During the scuffle, a Samaritan was bit on the leg and was later treated by paramedics.
When officers from 77th Patrol Division arrived, they sprayed the pit bulls with a fire extinguisher; however, the dogs continued to mull the victim. To stop the attack, officers fired several shots at the two pitbulls, killing one of them and causing the other one to flee. Later, Animal Control Officers were able to capture the pit bull, who had remained in close proximity.
The victim suffered several bites to her neck, chest and legs and is in critical condition at a local hospital. “It was a very vicious attack and thank goodness, those guys were there, they saved her life,” said Sergeant Pete Casey, 77th Patrol Division Watch Commander.
At the time of the investigation, authorities had not yet identified the owners of the two pitbulls.
