Chief Bernard C. Parks Announces the Los Angeles Police Foundation

On Wednesday, August 12, 1998, at 11:30 a.m., Chief Bernard Parks of the Los Angeles Police Department will announce the commencement and introduce the Board members of the Los Angeles Police Foundation. Modeled after similar foundations in New York and New Orleans, the Los Angeles Police Foundation will assist with the purchase of big ticket items for the Department including equipment, innovative training programs, and cutting edge technology. The announcement will be made at Parker Center, 150 North Los Angeles Street, Room 618, in downtown Los Angeles.

In the spring of this year, Chief Parks and a small group of community leaders established the Los Angeles Police Foundation to enhance the public safety of all Los Angeles residents, visitors and business community by providing resources to the LAPD which are not available through the City budgeting process. The Foundation is chartered by the State of California as a tax exempt, non-profit institution.

The Board of Directors is comprised of prominent business professionals and civic minded residents. The Board members who will be introduced during the announcement include Pamela Mullin, Helen Mars, Ronald Rogers, Enrique Hernandez, Mike Bowlin, Dennis Holt, Nathan Shapell, Ira Yellin, Bert Boeckmann, Wesley Ru, Gilbert Ray, Eli Broad, Frank J. Biondi, Jr., and Jeff Glassman. Ms. Mullin will be serving as the first Board President.

“There is no doubt in my mind that this Foundation and its financial assistance will place the Los Angeles Police Department at the forefront of this country’s law enforcement agencies,” said Chief Parks who marks his one year anniversary as Chief on August 12. “I want to thank all of the Board members for making Los Angeles’ public safety a priority.”
