Suspect Arrested for Murder in Collision That Caused The Death of Two People NR23739jc/lg

Northridge: The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is announcing the arrest of the suspect responsible for the traffic collision that resulted in the death of two people.

On November 4, 2023, at approximately 1:15 a.m., a traffic collision occurred at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Lindley Avenue. LAPD Officers responded to the scene and discovered that two vehicles had crashed with multiple occupants injured. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) personnel arrived and pronounced two deceased at the scene. LAFD paramedics transported three other people that were seriously injured to a local hospital.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Brian David Olivarez, was driving under the influence at a high rate of speed when he was involved in the collision. The Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to investigate the double fatal traffic crash. Olivarez was arrested and absentee booked at Van Nuys Jail for 191.5 (a) PC-Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated (Booking No. 6705474). His bail was set for $100,000.

On November 7, 2023, MCIT Detectives presented Olivarez’s case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration. The Deputy District Attorney (DDA) requested further investigation and Olivarez was released from custody to the care of the medical staff at the local hospital.

On November 8, 2023, MCIT Detectives gathered additional evidence and re-presented the case to the DDA. DDA R. Demattia, filed two counts of Murder (187 (a) PC), two counts of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter While Intoxicated (191.5 (a) PC), and 1 count of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and Drug Causing Injury (23153 (g) VC) on Olivarez with a bail of $4,025,000 (Booking No. 6709220).
