Drunk Driver Arrested in Double Fatal Traffic Collision NR23756mo

Los Angeles: Detectives from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division announced the arrest of a suspect responsible for a traffic collision that resulted in the death of a mother and son.

On November 20, 2023 around 5:20 p.m., the driver of a 2008 Cadillac Black CTS was traveling at a high rate of speed, eastbound Wilshire Boulevard at Burlington Avenue. The driver of the Cadillac lost control and collided into a tri-light pole located on the southeast corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Burlington Avenue.  The vehicle continued eastbound and struck two pedestrians that were standing near the southeast corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Burlington Avenue. Immediately after the traffic collision, the driver of the Cadillac fled the scene on foot and was detained about a block away.  The initial investigation determined that the driver displayed objective symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol; speed was also a factor in the traffic collision.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and prounounced victim one, identified as a male, 32-years-old deceased at scene. Victim two, identified as a female, 63-years-old was transported to a local hospital and succumbed to her injuries a short time later. The victim’s identies are being held, pending next-of-kin notification.

The suspect, identified as Isaiah Villegas, a resident of Los Angeles was arrested for 191.5 PC – Vehicular Manslaughter. Villegas was booked at Metropolitan Detention Center, booking no. 6713413 with bail set at $100,000.
