Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Commercial Crimes Division’s Organized Retail Crime Task Force (ORCTF) is announcing the arrests of suspects in connection to recent crimes.

On August 31, 2023, at 3:30 p.m., two male suspects, later identified as 25-year-old Jahana Boyce of Los Angeles and 27-year-old Andrew Ramirez of Los Angeles entered a business near the area of the 8600 block of Avalon Boulevard. Upon entering the location, they began to grab numerous high-end items and walk toward the exit. An employee engaged the suspects and attempted to prevent the theft from occurring. In an attempt to further the crime, Boyce punched the employee in the face knocking the victim to the ground. Both Ramirez and Boyce walked out of the store with the merchandise and fled the scene.

As a result of the brutal attack, the employee sustained severe injuries which required surgery.

The lead investigative unit on the case was ORCTF. Working in partnership with the Loss Prevention Officers of the retail store, Boyce and Ramirez were identified in four additional retail thefts in the City of Los Angeles.

Working in collaboration with other ORCTFs in the region, it was discovered that the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) ORCTF had arrested Boyce, Ramirez, and three other individuals on August 16, 2023. They were involved in a retail theft, in the unincorporated area of East Los Angeles, where there was a plain clothes operation at the retail store.

A collaborated case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Organized Crime Unit on September 9, 2023. The District Attorney’s Office filed a Felony arrest warrant for each one. They were each charged with 3-counts of 211 Robbery, 487(a) – Grand theft, and 182(a)(1) Conspiracy, of the California Penal Code. The warrant information was passed onto patrol divisions. Bail on the warrant for Boyce was set at $240,000. Bail for Ramirez’s warrant was set at $190,000.

On October 11, 2023, Southeast Community Safety Partnership Officers arrested Ramirez on the warrant during a traffic stop. During the vehicle impound inventory, a firearm was discovered in Ramirez’s vehicle. Ramirez was re-arrested for 25400(a)(2) Concealed Firearm in a Vehicle, of the California Penal Code. Ramirez was booked at 77th Street Jail, Booking No. 6692646. His bail was set at $190,000.

On October 13, 2023, Southeast Community Safety Partnership Officers arrested Boyce on the warrant during a traffic stop. During the vehicle impound inventory, two firearms were discovered in Boyce’s vehicle. Boyce was re-arrested for 25850(a) Possession of a loaded Firearm, of the California Penal Code. Boyce was booked at 77th Street Jail, Booking No. 6693701. His bail was set at $240,000.

On December 5, 2023, Ramirez pleaded guilty to 1-count of Robbery and was sentenced to five years in state prison. Boyce pleaded guilty to 1-count of Robbery with a Great Bodily Injury enhancement and was sentenced to ten years in state prison.
