Los Angeles; On November 19, 2023, around 7:40 p.m., Harbor Division officers were monitoring traffic on Pacific Coast Highway in Wilmington. Officers observed a vehicle (Hyundai Elantra), which is frequently stolen vehicle, westbound on Pacific Coast Highway. Officers maneuvered behind the vehicle and attempted to query the license plate to determine whether it was stolen. At which time, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and turned into a residential community. The vehicle proceeded to run several stop signs and attempted to evade the officers.
Officer broadcast they were in pursuit of possible stolen vehicle. As the pursuit traveled westbound Pacific Coast Highway, it ran a red light at Avalon Boulevard and crashed into another vehicle (Nissan Pathfinder). The force of the impact caused the Pathfinder to crash into another vehicle (Mazda MPV). The investigation revealed that the vehicle was recently stolen from Lennox and contained numerous juvenile occupants. The driver/suspect was arrested for Section 2800.3 “Felony Evading-Causing Injury” of the California Vehicle Code. Officers arrested another juvenile in the vehicle for several felony warrants (Assault with a deadly weapon, robbery, receiving stolen property and a minor in possession of a firearm).
Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the injured parties to Harbor UCLA hospital for medical treatment.
The Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) responded to the scene to investigate the collision. Detectives canvassed the scene for surveillance cameras.
