Five Arrested in Prostitution Sting Operation, Fourteen Rescued in 2023 NR24006cm/dm

Los Angeles:  The Los Angeles Police Department’s Southeast Area Vice Unit is announcing the arrest of five suspects believed to be involved in prostitution related crimes that occurred in South Los Angeles.

On December 30, 2023, around 3:00 p.m., vice officers conducted a sting operation targeting commercial sex workers who post advertisements online for sexual services in exchange for money. Undercover officers posing as sex purchasers contacted the sex workers and organized a meet up at a nearby motel in South Los Angeles. This operation is an ongoing effort to prevent the trafficking of women and minors through online advertisements, as well as to deter these individuals from utilizing local motels to further facilitate prostitution related crimes.

During the operation, undercover officers obtained four separate violations from individuals attempting to sell their sexual services online. Those individuals were subsequently arrested by uniformed Southeast officers.

The following adults were arrested and cited for California Penal Code (PC) Section 647(b)(2): Solicitation for the Purposes of Prostitution, and an additional individual was arrested for multiple outstanding felony warrants. All arrestees are residents of the city of Los Angeles.

Southeast Area Vice officers worked closely with various Federal, State, and County agencies to combat prostitution, human trafficking, quality of life issues, and other violent crimes that have occurred along the Figueroa Corridor. In 2023, officers made 367 arrests along the Figueroa Corridor and surrounding area. Additionally, officers rescued 14 minors who were identified as victims of human trafficking. Southeast Area Vice continues to partner with non-profit organizations such as Journey Out, Saving Innocence, and Children of the Night to provide services to survivors of human trafficking. These organizations offer a wide range of services, from on call-crisis response to long term case management and housing.
