Swedish Tourist Murder

On the morning of April 3, 1999, the victim, Randall Dunne and the suspect, Kristofer Lines, became involved in an argument. Originally the argument started at a local Ralph’s market and continued when the suspect and victim returned to their residence located at 1700 block of N. Sycamore. The suspect armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim. The suspect is a Swedish national and was visiting the United States with another Swedish national. The second Swedish national was an eyewitness to the murder. After the homicide, the suspect fled the scene. During the following week the suspect was seen numerous times in the Hollywood area, continuing to elude arrest.

On the evening of April 19, 1999, a citizen informant contacted the West Valley Area night watch Detectives, and stated that they had information on the whereabouts of Kristofer Lines. The citizen told the Detectives that Lines was staying with a friend at 21200 block of Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills.

West Valley Detectives contacted Hollywood Homicide Detectives and verified the information supplied by the citizen. Hollywood Detectives and other Valley Bureau personnel responded to the Mulholland location and used a public address system to order the suspect from the residence. The family living at the location exited the residence and were interviewed by detectives. The mother and father had no knowledge of the suspect being inside their residence, a 16 year old daughter told detectives that Lines was inside the residence hiding in the upstairs bedroom closet. The suspect refused to exit the residence and SWAT personnel were summoned.

SWAT officers searched the residence and discovered the suspect hiding under a blanket in the attic. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Hollywood station for booking and further investigation. The Swedish Consul from Los Angeles was notified and two attorneys and a staff officer from the consul responded to Hollywood station and met with the suspect. After the meeting, the suspect was interviewed by homicide detectives.

The suspect was booked for murder at Hollywood station.
