Bicyclist Struck and Killed by Hit & Run Driver NR24022cm/dm

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department’s South Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a hit and run traffic collision that killed a 59-year-old man.

On Wednesday, January 17, 2024, around 7:30 p.m., a bicyclist was crossing eastbound Crenshaw Boulevard south of Stocker Street outside of a marked crosswalk. A vehicle traveling northbound Crenshaw Boulevard collided with the bicyclist. The force of the impact launched the bicyclist airborne and caused him to land on the roadway. The bicyclist was then struck by a second vehicle traveling northbound Crenshaw Boulevard at a high rate of speed.

The driver of the first vehicle remained at scene and attempted to render aid to the bicyclist. The driver of the second vehicle continued northbound Crenshaw Boulevard, without stopping, identifying themselves, or rendering aid to the bicyclist as required by law. The second vehicle is described as a sedan.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the bicyclist deceased at scene. His name is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.    

 On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
