On June 24, 1999, at 10:30 a.m., Newton Area will be holding a press conference at Newton Station, 3400 South Central Avenue, Los Angeles. The purpose of the news conference will be the introduction of the Neighbors in Dialogue, a dialogue process that will improve communication and cooperation between community members. The dialogues will touch on themes such as respect, family, culture, neighborhood and inclusive community.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) will be working together to bring the dialogues to the community in South Central Los Angeles. Newton Division will bring its Neighborhood Block Clubs and NCCJ together to conduct the dialogues. The dialogues are designed to break down the barriers of bigotry, bias, and racism. This will enable them to better know one another and to work together to improve their communities in partnership with the LAPD.
NCCJ was founded in 1927 and is a human relations organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America.
In attendance will be Captain Mutz, Los Angeles Police Department Newton Area’s Commanding Officer, Jim Hilvert, Executive Director of NCCJ, Lucky Altman of NCCJ, and various block captains and community leaders from Newton Area.
