High Speed Hit and Run Collision Leaves One Driver Dead NR24036cm

On February 15, 2024, around 2:15 p.m., the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic detectives arrested the driver involved in a high-speed fatal hit-and-run traffic collision. The driver has been identified as Kenya Obinna, a 60-year-old female, resident of Canoga Park. Obinna was taken into custody near the 7600 block of Canoga Avenue and booked under Booking No. 6762567, for 187 (A)PC – Murder.

Canoga Park: The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic Division detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a fatal hit and run traffic collision that killed a man in his 20’s.

On January 31, 2024, around 1:10 a.m., a 2005, silver Toyota Camry and a dark colored sedan were travelling at a high rate of speed southbound Topanga Canyon Boulevard near Vanowen Street when they collided with each other, sending the Toyota Camry into a light pole. The dark colored sedan continued southbound Topanga Canyon Boulevard without stopping, identifying themselves, or rendering aid as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the driver of the Toyota Camry deceased at scene. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Valley Traffic Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward with any information regarding this fatal hit and run.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
