Rampart Homicide Detectives are investigating a triple shooting that resulted in the death of two victims and the wounding of the third victim. The deceased are Gavino Flores Garcia, a male Hispanic 23 years of age, and Roberto Damiam Fabian, a male Hispanic 22 years of age. The surviving victim was Abraham Fabian, a male Hispanic juvenile 15 years of age and the younger brother of Roberto Fabian.
On August 16, 1999 at approximately 3:10 pm, the victims were parking their vehicle in the 1000 block of North Rosemont Avenue. Garcia was the driver of the vehicle, Roberto Fabian was the right front passenger and Abraham Fabian was in the rear seat. The victims were parking the vehicle across from the Fabians’ residence. As they parked the vehicle, the suspect came walking southbound on Rosemont Avenue crossing the street to stand next to the victims’ vehicle driver’s door. The suspect produced a semi-automatic handgun and began firing into the vehicle striking all three victims. The suspect then walked away southbound Rosemont Avenue only to return a few moments later and again fire into the vehicle. The suspect then fled southbound on Rosemont Avenue from Marathon Street.
Victim Garcia expired at the scene from multiple gunshots to the torso. Victim Roberto Fabian was transported by rescue ambulance to Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital where he succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the body. Abraham Fabian was transported by rescue ambulance to L.A.C.G.H where he was treated for a gunshot wounds to the left hand and chest. He is expected to survive.
The suspect is described as a male Hispanic18 to 20 years of age, black short hair, 5’5" to 5’10", 140 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt with a "Raiders" logo in the front, and black jeans. The suspect appeared to be a street gang member.
The investigation revealed the crime stems from an incident, which occurred on July 21, 1999, at approximately 1:00 am, when the suspect had attempted to steal victim’s Garcia car stereo. The identity of the suspect has not been established.
