Fatal Hit-and-Run Driver Arrested NR24074cm

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Detectives (VTD) have arrested the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a 29-year-old man.

On February 24, 2024, around 10:00 p.m., a silver Nissan Cube was traveling eastbound Van Nuys Boulevard near Remick Avenue when it struck a pedestrian walking in the eastbound lanes of Van Nuys Boulevard. The driver of the Nissan continued eastbound, failing to stop, identify themselves, or render aid as required by law.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The pedestrian was described as a 29-year-old male Hispanic. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Nissan Cube was identified as 70-year-old Arturo Sepulveda Carrera from Van Nuys. Carrera was arrested and booked at LAPD’s Van Nuys Jail for 20001(A) VC: Felony Hit and Run with a bail of $50000.00 and booking number 6766160.

Drivers are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

The public is also reminded that as pedestrians, they should obey the rules of the road and walk on designated walking areas, such as sidewalks and crosswalks.
