Great Circle Family Foods, Inc., the operator of the nationally famous Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, is holding a Pre-Grand Opening Party on Thursday, September 23, 1999, between 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, at their new store located at 7249 Van Nuys Boulevard, in Van Nuys, as a fundraiser for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Van Nuys Area Jeopardy Program.

Officially scheduled to open on Tuesday, September 28, 1999, the new Krispy Kreme store has offered its employees and its entire product for four hours as a gesture in partnership with the Jeopardy Program’s effort to prevent the youth of Van Nuys Area from joining gangs.

The Van Nuys Area Jeopardy Program, formed in 1990, is designed to serve children in the middle school and early high school ages and lead them away from the gang life style. Children who are "in jeopardy" of becoming gang members because of their neighborhood, family or school relationships, are referred into the program by police officers, social workers, teachers and parents. The program provides after-school and weekend activities, such as boxing, karate, hobby krafts, field trips, and classes in computer skills and drama, in an effort to show young people that there are alternatives to joining gangs. The parents of potential gang members are also counseled in the signs and dangers of gang association, as well as parenting skills.

Be one of the first in the San Fernando Valley to get famous Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, before the store officially opens. All proceeds go to the Mid Valley Jeopardy Foundation to benefit the Van Nuys Area Jeopardy Program, "balancing the odds between the gangs and our families."
