Suspect Surrenders to Police After Fatally Wounding Estranged Lover

On Tuesday, September 7, 1999, at approximately 6:00 PM, Candida Lopez, a 45 year old female Hispanic, was the victim of a vicious murder. Lopez and her 48 year old estranged lover, Miguel Solis, were seated in Solis’ vehicle parked in front of the 1200 block of South Gramercy Place. Lopez and Solis became engaged in a verbal dispute. During the dispute Solis produced a handgun and shot Lopez multiple times in her body. Solis then drove his vehicle and parked in front of Wilshire Area Police Station.

Solis entered the police station and surrendered. Solis stated he had done something terribly wrong. Solis advised officers he had murdered Lopez. Solis escorted officers back to his vehicle where they discovered Lopez’ bullet riddled body. Lopez was pronounced dead by responding paramedics. Solis was taken into custody and booked for murder at Wilshire Area Police Station.
