April 19, 2024

Mid-City: The Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect, or suspects, responsible for the murder of a man that was found in the rear of a moving vehicle rental company.

On April 18, 2024, around 10:53 a.m., Wilshire division officers responded to a radio call of a death investigation in the 2400 block of Redondo Boulevard. The call originated when local residents notified a moving vehicle rental company that one of their vehicles had been abandoned, was impeding traffic, and was parked at Apple Street and Redondo Boulevard. An employee of the rental company responded to the location to recover the vehicle. When the rear cargo space of the vehicle was opened, he observed a tarp wrapped around what appeared to be a human body. There was also a smell of decomposition, and the employee called the police.

Officers arrived and confirmed that there was, in fact, a dead body and determined it to be a possible homicide as the body was wrapped tightly under the tarp. West Bureau Homicide detectives responded to the scene and confirmed that the victim had died from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. The victim was identified as a 50-year-old male Black, Henry Jernigan.
