Gregory Morgan

Bio

Captain Morgan grew up the son of a Navy Officer and lived across the United States. Starting his career in Chicago as a civilian in law enforcement, he went on to complete an internship with Washington D.C. Homicide before joining the Los Angeles Police Department in 2005. His assignments as a Police Officer included Rampart, Newton, and 77th Patrol Divisions, followed by the Specialized Enforcement Unit of Criminal Gang Homicide Division.

Upon promoting to Sergeant in 2013, Captain Morgan was assigned to Pacific Patrol Division and the Venice Beach Task Force. He later transferred to Wilshire Area and was selected as the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the Gang Enforcement Detail, helping achieve a reduction in gang crime for three consecutive years. In 2018, Captain Morgan transferred to Olympic Area as a Detective and became the Night Watch Detective Supervisor, working to strengthen the partnership between operations and investigations.

Captain Morgan promoted to Lieutenant in 2019 as a Watch Commander in Hollywood Area and led a Mobile Field Force (MFF) during the civil unrest of 2020. He later became the OIC of the Hollywood Area Gang Impact Team, responsible for the Gang Enforcement Detail, Gang Detectives, and Narcotics Enforcement Detail.

In 2021, he was selected to serve as the Platoon Leader of B-Platoon, Metropolitan Division. In this role, he managed a wide variety of tactical operations, specialized crowd control response, and dignitary protection details. While at Metropolitan Division, Captain Morgan also served as the OIC of the Emergency Medical Technical (EMT) Cadre, having been a licensed EMT for many years. He remained at Metropolitan Division until his promotion to Captain in 2024.

Captain Morgan has extensive teaching experience and is an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego and George Washington University. He also teaches for California’s Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Management Course. Captain Morgan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago, a Master’s in Homeland Security from George Washington University, and Professional Certificates in Risk Management and Leadership from Stanford University and Harvard Business School.

Captain Morgan proudly serves the City of Los Angeles and the community of North Hollywood, where he is currently the Patrol Commanding Officer.
