Fatal Hit-and-Run Leaves Bicyclist Dead

Lake Balboa: The Los Angeles Police Department Valley Traffic detectives are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a man in his early 40’s.

On May 03, 2024, around 8:05 p.m., a fatal hit and run traffic collision occurred near the area of Woodley Avenue south of Victory Boulevard. A silver vehicle was traveling southbound on Woodley Avenue at an unsafe speed when it collided with a bicyclist on the roadway. The force of the collision caused the pedestrian to be thrown in a southeast direction, colliding with the roadway. The silver hit and run vehicle failed to stop and render aid as required by law, continuing southbound on Woodley Avenue towards Burbank Boulevard.

The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and pronounced the male pedestrian deceased at the scene. The pedestrian was identified as a male, possibly Hispanic, in his early 40s. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

Valley Traffic detectives are urging the public to come forward with information regarding this fatal hit and run. Numerous community members were reportedly around Woodley Avenue between Victory Boulevard and Burbank Boulevard at the time of the collision.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

The public is also reminded that as bicyclists and pedestrians, they should obey the rules of the road and ride their bikes on designated areas.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
