Vehicle Pursuit of a Reckless Driver Results in Crash
San Pedro: The Los Angeles Police Department’s Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) is investigating a single vehicle crash of a vehicle being pursued.
On May 17, 2024, at around 6:10 p.m., a Harbor Area patrol unit observed a vehicle driving recklessly in the area of 12th Street and Mesa St. When the officers got behind the vehicle to conduct a status check of the vehicle, it accelerated away in an attempt to flee and committed other moving violations, prompting the officers to activate their lights and siren and initiating a vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit, a handgun was thrown from the vehicle and later recovered by officers. The suspect lost control of the vehicle and crashed into an apartment complex at the intersection of 10th Street and Palos Verdes Street. The pursuit lasted approximately two minutes and no other motorists were involved.
The driver, later identified as 18-year-old, Luis Davalos (Booking No. 6812061), a resident of Los Angeles, was arrested without incident. Mr. Davalos did not sustain any injuries from the crash. The front passenger, a 17-year-old juvenile, was injured and was transported to a local hospital where he received medical treatment.
The Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) responded to the scene to conduct the Traffic Crash Report.
