Fourth Annual Towers to the Sea Cycling for Youth Bicycle Tour

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is proud to announce that on Saturday, November 20,1999, Mayor Richard Riordan will lead the Fourth Annual Towers to the Sea Cycling for Youth Bicycle Tour. The ride will start at 190th Street and Vermont Avenue, at 7:00 a.m., and will go to the famous Watts Towers, then it will proceed to the San Pedro marina, and finish back at the 190th Street and Vermont Avenue, at approximately 11:00 a.m. The main ride is 40 miles in length. However, there is a 20 mile ride that starts at 9:00 a.m., at the same start location. The riders will be escorted by LAPD motorcycle officers.

After the ride, there will be a community fair with various booths dedicated to health, food vendors, children face painting, a Port Police display van, and a LAPD helicopter. There will also be live entertainment. Non-riders are encouraged to participate in the community fair.

The proceeds raised from the bicycle tour will benefit the Southeast and Harbor Areas’ Explorer Posts. The funds will help pay for equipment, uniforms and educational experiences for underprivileged explorer youths.
