LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT
PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday, March 21, 2000
Los Angeles – On Sunday, March 26, 2000, the Los Angeles Police Department will conduct graduation ceremonies for it’s 70th Law Enforcement Explorer Academy class. The event will commence at 11:00 a.m. in the gymnasium of the Los Angeles Police Academy at Elysian Park.
For the past eight weeks, Explorer Recruits, 14 to 20 years of age, have dedicated their time on the weekend to participate in a rigorous training program conducted by the Department’s Juvenile Division. The training consisted of physical fitness, marching drills, tactics and academics in basic law.
The program is chartered by the Boy Scouts of America and provides an opportunity for youths to develop insight to determine if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. An environment is provided to encourage explorers to develop a positive relationship with the police, provide community service, and develop leadership skills.
The Media is invited to cover the event. If there are any questions regarding this event, please contact Sergeant Scott Fairchild, Youth Programs Unit, Juvenile Division, at 213-485-3133.
