"Sobriety and Driver’s License Checkpoint"

Los Angeles- The Los Angeles Police Department, Central Traffic Division gathers statistical information on traffic collisions, arrests for driving under the influence (DUI), and Hit-&-Run traffic collisions. Central Traffic Division will be utilizing a problem solving technique directed to the reduction in these categories of traffic collisions. A combined sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint will focus attention on education and enforcement of impaired and unlicensed drivers. After receiving requests from community members and patrol officers, a study was done for Central Bureau. The study revealed a high number of DUI and Hit & Run traffic collisions on Broadway.

It is believed that the majority of hit & run traffic collisions involve either DUI and/or unlicensed drivers. Drinking and driving is an unacceptable behavior, it can cause impairment which may lead to property damage, injury and/or death. LAPD officers strongly advise to designate a sober driver for those who choose to go out and drink alcoholic beverages. Additionally, officers strongly warn that if you do not have a driver’s license, please don’t drive. It is against the law and your vehicle may be impounded.

On Friday, July 21, 2000, at 8:00 p.m., Los Angeles Police Department, Central Traffic Division will be conducting a "Sobriety & Driver’s License Checkpoint". The location is on Whittier Boulevard between Esperanza Street and Spence Street.
