Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department’s (LAPD) Force Investigation Division is investigating an Officer-Involved Shooting (OIS) that occurred in a Pacific Palisades neighborhood early Thursday morning.

On August 9, 2017, around 10:53 p.m., Pacific Division uniformed officers responded to a domestic violence radio call, in the 1600 block of Alta Mura Rd, in Pacific Palisades. Upon their arrival they met with a private security guard and a female victim near the residence. They reported that a male suspect (identified as Erick Bogart) had shot at the victim several times inside of the residence just prior to the radio call. Fortunately, the victim was not injured and managed to leave the residence. The officers were able to set up a perimeter and determined that Bogart, had retreated into the house, barricaded himself and refused to come out. The LAPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) personnel were requested for an armed barricaded suspect and responded to the scene.

On August 10, 2017, around 5:00 a.m., Bogart shot at SWAT officers from the residence, which resulted in an Officer-Involved-Shooting. A short time later, SWAT personnel entered the residence and located Bogart; unresponsive from an apparent gun shot wound. The Los Angeles Fire Department Tactical Emergency Medical Support (TEMS) paramedics determined Bogart to be deceased. Three handguns and a shotgun were located from inside the residence and booked as evidence. No officers were injured as a result of this incident.

LAPD’s specialized Force Investigation Division (FID) responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and collecting forensic evidence. The District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Inspector General had representatives at scene.

The complete investigation will be reviewed by the Chief of Police and the Board of Police Commissioners to determine whether the use of deadly force complied with LAPD’s policies and procedures. Additionally, representatives from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who responded to the scene will review the subsequent FID investigation; evidence collected and witness statements to determine if the force used by the officers(s) was reasonable.
