Man and Woman Shot while Standing on Sidewalk, Man Dies at Hospital NR12199kr

Los Angeles.  Hollenbeck Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting death of 42-year-old Eddie Banks and the wounding of his 43-year-old girlfriend.

On Monday, April 30, 2012, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Hollenbeck Area officers were called to a shooting in the 1800 block of East First Street.  When they arrived they found Banks suffering from multiple gunshots wounds.  His girlfriend had also been shot, but was not seriously injured.

Banks was transported to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics where he died a short time later.  The injured victim was also transported to the same hospital, but was treated and later released.
 
Detectives believe both victims were standing on the sidewalk when a suspect armed with a handgun walked up to the pair and opened fire on them.  The shooting is believed to be gang related.
