August 5, 2015

Los Angeles: Los Angeles Police Department Hollenbeck Area officers rescue a man from a burning car following a fiery traffic collision.

On July 31, 2015, around 2:45 a.m., Hollenbeck Area Officer Daniel Navarro and his partner Junior McKeekin responded to a traffic collision on Whittier Boulevard just west of Boyle Avenue. As officers arrived, they saw two mangled cars in the roadway, one of which was on fire. Without hesitation, Officer Navarro and Officer McKeekin quickly approached the cars to make sure all occupants were safe and away from the wreckage. They saw the driver of one car, slumped over the driver’s seat, unconscious.

The officers broke the window and forced the driver’s door open while the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. They pulled the driver to safety, as additional units used fire extinguishers to put the fire out.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported both drivers, involved in the traffic collision, to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. Both are said to be in stable condition.

Officers Navarro and McMeekin are to be commended for their heroic action while upholding the proud traditions of the Los Angeles Police Department.
