Fatal Hit and Run Involving a Pedestrian NR18315ml

December 11, 2018

Los Angeles: Detectives
from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Central Traffic Division
are asking for the public’s help in providing any information that
would lead to the identification and arrest of the suspect involved
in a fatal hit and run collision.

On December 10, 2018, at approximately 3:40 a.m., a fatal Vehicle
vs. Pedestrian Hit and Run Traffic Collision occurred on Vernon
Avenue between Crocker Street and Towne Avenue in Newton
Area.

The collision occurred when the victim, identified as Ana Tica, 33
years old, was walking westbound in the number one lane of Vernon
Avenue just west of Towne Avenue. She was still in the number one
lane when she was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on Vernon
Avenue. The vehicle stopped briefly then fled southbound on San
Pedro Street from Vernon Avenue.

Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the scene and
administered medical attention to the victim. Despite lifesaving
efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Video footage from a camera from a nearby business captured the hit
and run vehicle just before the collision. A second video camera
captured Ms. Tica’s body coming to rest in the roadway as the
suspect vehicle fled the scene.

The hit and run vehicle is described as a possible gray early
1990’s Dodger Caravan or similar vehicle body type mini-van, with
damage to the left front area. There was no driver
description.

The video also captured a possible 2015 Mitsubishi Lancer or
similar body type, with black door handles, drive into the video
frame when the collision occurred. That same possible vehicle
returned to the scene after the collision and drove away after a
few minutes. Detectives would like to interview the occupants of
that vehicle to assist us in identifying the hit and run vehicle
and driver.

The investigation is being handled by detectives from Central
Traffic Division. Anyone with information about the incident is
