email Captain Timothy Scott Harrelson was born and raised in Panorama
City in the San

Fernando Valley. He graduated from St Genevieve High School and
then went to college at California State University of Northridge
where he graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.
After graduating from college, Scott moved to La Jolla, San Diego
where he worked as a stock broker for over five years. In 1995
Scott decided to follow his childhood dream of being a Los Angeles
Police Officer and successfully entered the Los Angeles Police
Academy in September of 1995.

As a police officer, Scott has worked a variety of assignments
including Patrol, Gang Enforcement, Narcotics Enforcement, and
Training Officer. One of the highlights of Scott's time as an
officer was working as the Senior Lead Officer in the community of
his upbringing, Panorama City.

In 2003, he promoted to Sergeant and worked assignments including
Patrol, Bikes, Community Relations, and Internal Affairs, both as
an investigator and later as the Adjutant to the Captain of
Internal Affairs.

Scott promoted to Lieutenant in 2011 and worked as a Watch
Commander, as the Lieutenant in Charge of the Valley Crime Task
Force, and finally as the Detective Commanding Officer in Topanga
Division. Scott's promotion to Captain in December of 2016 brought
him to Central Division where he served as the Patrol Commanding
Officer. In February of 2018, Scott was selected to become the
Commanding Officer of Security Services Division and was upgraded
to Captain III. In January of 2019, he returned to Central, where
he currently serves as the Commanding Officer of Central
Area.

In May 2020, Scott graduated from the University of Southern
California with a Master's Degree in Leadership. He holds
California POST Certificates for the Basic, Advanced, Supervisory,
and Management levels. Scott has also graduated from the Sherman
Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and the FBI National
Academy.

Scott is a member of several law enforcement associations including
the Command Officers Association, the Peace Officers Association of
Los Angeles County, the International Association of Chiefs of
Police, and the FBI National Academy Associates.
